Anne Frank Remembered by Miep Gies

June 9th, 2008

This is the story of the woman who helped to hide the Frank family. I have read the Diary of Anne Frank and found it interesting to read the story from Miep’s point of view. It had to be so difficult to keep trying to keep them hidden and getting food, etc. The fear of those days must have been incredible. Miep became so close with the Frank family; it would have been impossible not to. She was only one of a few people they got to see at all. I admire the courage it took to help the Frank’s and to any of those who helped people in need in those times. I can’t imagine the life that the Frank’s lived through-the terror of being discovered-of not knowing what would be done to you if you were. They went from a good life with lots of things to a life that dwindled to nothing but fear and terror once they were captured.

Reading a novel such as this makes you realize how lucky we are to live the lives we do. This book is absolutely worth reading. It takes us back as Anne Frank’s Diary did, to a time that should never be forgotten and that should never happen again.
