Keeping Track of The 2009 Read-Your-Own-Books Challenge

November 17th, 2008

This is where I will keep track of The 2009 Read-Your-Own-Books Challenge. I’m looking forward to tackling some of the books on my own shelves. I’m going to commit to at least 30 of my own books. If I read more then I’m really doing great. I hope I don’t read less.

  1. Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
  2. 10 Days Anne Frank by David Colbert
  3. Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton
  4. The House on Tradd Street by Karen White (352 pgs) (November)
  5. The Frozen Thames by Helen Humphreys (192 pgs) (November)
  6. Dragon House by John Shors (384 pgs) (December)
  7. The House of Reckoning by John Saul
  8. The Paper Bag Christmas by Kevin Alan Milne
  9. Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
  10. Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout

Dar, which gadget do you use for the challenge button in the sidebar? I’m still trying to figure all this out, lol.

  2. J. Kaye Oldner says:

Yes, I thought this was the perfect challenge to get some of the book on my shelf gone. :)

  3. Dar says:

Mary, you use picture. Put in your title and caption on the lines there and make sure to put your url in for your keeping track post and add the pic and you’re set.

  4. J. Kaye Oldner says:

Did my last comment go through? Blogger when a bit crazy there and I have no idea.

  5. Dar says:

Depends which comment J.Kaye. Was it after I commented back. It can be screwy sometimes.

  6. Jo-Jo says:

I signed up for this one too…you know as we get a few off the shelf, new ones will just be added! lol

  7. J. Kaye Oldner says:

No it didn’t. :( Now I have no clue what it was. Sorry…this is the second time it’s happened on your blog. I’ve never had trouble before. Next time, I’ll copy what I write before clicking Publish Your Comment.

  8. Dar says:

    J. Kaye, sorry for the hassle. I’ve been thinking of changing to word press but don’t know much about it yet. I think there’s another one out there too. I’d like to get something with more options-any ideas?

  9. Dar says:

Jo-Jo, I know you’re right. The shelves will never empty out. I do hope to get to some of those that I had wanted to read so much when I got them-know what I mean?

  10. J. Kaye Oldner says:

Nope, sorry, I had WP and didn’t like it. As a blogger, I love Blogger.

  11. J. Kaye Oldner says:

Which gadgets and I’ll tell you how?

  12. Dar says:

Ok, you know how you have your Book Challenges and then you have the scroll down list and people can just click on that to get where they want to go. I like that. I imagine you made the buttons yourself.

  13. Veens says:

30 is pretty awesome number girl!

  14. J. Kaye Oldner says:

I use to make the buttons myself and lost my ability. Long story. Short one is I switched. The buttons came from http://www.mycoolbutton.com.

The scroll thing is an HTML. If you notice blogger has that (adding HTML) for the side bars. I didn’t know anything about this code until I started Blogger. Now I know more than Steve…which still isn’t much. But I discovered yesterday, he knows NOTHING.

To do this, type in a Google search for HTML scroll box code or HTML scroll bar. Find which works best for you. It took a lot of experimenting for me to get the right one. I think it took me a half of a day…lol! Plus I had to match the background. I have no idea how, only that after a zillion tries, one worked and I didn’t fool with it after that.

If you can read HTML code, I’ll give you mine. You’ll need to change the font and colors. Also, there is a generator – http://www.htmlbasix.com/scrollbargenerator.shtml – that might help.

I can’t remember which site I used. Whenever I need something, I just type in what I need with HTML in front and a BUNCH of sites pop up.

Even if you can’t read HTML, try it out. You might find it fun. I didn’t, but you might…lol!

  15. Dar says:

Veens, if you saw my shelves you’d think 30 was a pretty small number-lol.

J.Kaye, thank you so much. I’m going to print that off and see what kind of damage I can eventually do to my blog. I have a test blog somewhere if I can just remember the password and all. I could practice there.

  16. J. Kaye Oldner says:

Dar, If you need me to send you my code through email, please let me know. You can adjust the colors to fit your blog.

  17. Dar says:

    J. Kaye, thank you:)

  18. Trish says:

    LOVE your organization, Dar!!

  19. Shana says:

I’m definitely doing this challenge with you Dar!

Tish, lol. I’m not so sure about organized. We’ll see.

Shana, I’m so glad you’re doing this one too!
