What a lot of great giveaways this evening. I’ve got another one for 3 copies of The Girl She Used to Be by David Cristofano up for grabs courtesy of Valerie at Hachette Book Group. Yet another one I’ve been wanting to read for ages and which I’m postive would be an excellent selection for your book club! Take a look at what it’s about…
When Melody Grace McCartney was six years old, she and her parents witnessed an act of violence so brutal that it changed their lives forever. The federal government lured them into the Witness Protection Program with the promise of safety, and they went gratefully. But the program took Melody’s name, her home, her innocence, and, ultimately, her family. She’s been May Adams, Karen Smith, Anne Johnson, and countless others–everyone but the one person she longs to be: herself. So when the feds spirit her off to begin yet another new life in another town, she’s stunned when a man confronts her and calls her by her real name.
Wow, this would be a great one to discuss. Who hasn’t wondered what life would be like in the Witness Protection Program? I think it would be awful to lose your identity like that. As I said this would spark great discussion but to help you along, Hachette Book Group has provided a Reading Guide.

I checked out this book at the library about a year ago, but never got around to reading it. The story sounded really interesting, though, so it's been on my list.

I have alwyas thought the Witness Protection Program sounds fascinating except if you are one of it's "victims" then it seems horrifying. I understand the need for it but as you said, Dar, it's got to be awful to have to change your name and live your entire life and all of the people important to you, behind. And then you can't count on staying in one place.
I definitely want to read this book!
